Lilien, Ephraim Moses

Lilien, Ephraim Moses
(1874-1925)
   German artist. He was born in Drohobycz, Galicia. He first worked in Munich as a cartoonist, later in Berlin as a book illustrator. An active Zionist, he was a founder and editor of the Berlin publishing house Jüdischer Verlag. In 1902 he published Juda, a volume of ballads on scriptural themes with his illustrations. He was a member of the committee formed to establish the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem. Among his works are a group of etchings that include impressions of Palestine.
